What accreditation proves

Using the list

Accreditation narrows the field; it does not pick a vendor for you. A small employer and a hospital network need different checks, turnaround and integrations, which the screening services comparison and the small-business comparison read from each vendor's own pages. Churches and youth programs have their own volunteer screening comparison.

Whichever firm you choose is a consumer reporting agency, and the consumer reporting agency guide explains what that means for you. The firm runs the search; the paperwork around it is still yours, set out in the FCRA rules for employers.

How this list was read

We opened PBSA's accredited-firms page on October 22, 2026, ran its directory search with the name field blank (PBSA's own instruction for the full list) and showed every record. Each row keeps the firm name as PBSA prints it, the state from its address (15 firms list an address outside the US, shown by country), and the accreditation lines: 117 hold US accreditation and 23 hold General accreditation.

PBSA's directory does not list the services each firm sells, so this roster has no services column and no service filter; the program filter stands in for it. Nothing here comes from a firm's own marketing, and the order is PBSA's alphabetical order.
